The 1-year Master in Public Administration (MPA) programme provides an intensive, interdisciplinary course of study for experienced professionals who wish to acquire new knowledge and skills to enhance their leadership and managerial capabilities. This innovative programme can be taken full-time or part-time.

Taught by expert faculty using a problem-based learning approach and real-world case studies, MPA students learn to apply the techniques of policy analysis and programme evaluation to resolve complex multi-dimensional policy challenges, as well as sharpen their leadership and communication skills. The School also conducts an active programme of seminars and public lectures by political, not-for-profit and business leaders to enable all students to complement their formal learning with the opportunity to interact with distinguished individuals who are shaping the future.

The MPA class comprises approximately 60 accomplished and motivated individuals who bring with them a wealth of diverse experiences to enhance the classroom learning experience. Students come from many different countries – from Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific and Africa. They work in a variety of sectors such as finance, trade, education, media, health, transport, housing, foreign affairs and development. Despite their short time together, or perhaps because of the shared experience of learning and working under tremendous pressure, MPA students forge an enduring international network of professional and personal contacts.
The School expects its MPA graduates to serve in a wide range of middle- to senior-level positions in the government, non-profit organisations, international organisations and the private sector.

Scholarships

The scholarships below are offered on a competitive basis. Applicants must have good academic and professional records. They must also have demonstrated leadership and a desire to contribute to public service. Not all the awards will be made unless thereare candidates of sufficient merit. Scholars may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship or award without the prior approval of the School.There is no bond or obligation for the scholar to be employed by NUS or in Singapore, except for the Lien Foundation scholarship.

Over the past few years, entrepreneurship has become an area of increased strategic interest and the entrepreneurship research group at The Department of Management therefore invites applicants for a position as PhD student. This particular position is within the area of entrepreneurship and regional development and is funded by the Regional Development Council.

The PhD student will be joining a dedicated and vibrant group of senior and junior researchers in entrepreneurship from both the business school and the university. S/he will be expected to partake in events arranged by the group and in writing of academic articles alone and with members of the group, and to communicate research results to the public. A successful international applicant is expected to acquire a basic working knowledge of Danish during the early period of the PhD position.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong interest and some prior knowledge in entrepreneurship theory. We value methodological plurality. Earlier experience with working in an academic environment from a position as research assistant will be preferable.

History or background of award
For the purpose of encouraging postgraduate research, one objective being to build up strong research schools at the University, Victoria offers PhD scholarships to support doctoral studies. These scholarships are awarded on academic merit and are open to New Zealand and international students in any discipline.

Purpose of award
These Scholarships are intended to encourage doctoral study at Victoria University of Wellington.

Selection criteria
The Scholarships are open to graduates of any university within or outside of New Zealand who intend to enrol either for PhD or who have started their PhD study within one year of application.
Applicants with Victoria University 'offers of study' of who are current Victoria University PhD students must apply on the application form available from the link at the top of this webpage.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Offers of Victoria Phd Scholarships will be made approximately six weeks after each closing date in March, July and November of the year of application. Because some applicants may in the event decline the offer of a Scholarship with the result that further offers have to be made, it is possible that some applicants will not be finally notified of the success or otherwise of their applications three months after application. If you are unsuccessful you will be notified of this and if you are on the researve list by email in the first instance. Please provide a clear and correct email address.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Scholarship recipients shall be required to devote themselves full-time to their programme of research during the tenure of the scholarship and may not hold a position of emolument without the approval of the University Scholarships Committee. Approval may be given for scholarship recipients to undertake paid employment (usually tutoring) for up to a maximum of 600 hours in any one calendar year. All requests to undertake part-time employment must be supported in writing by the supervisor.
Once the period of tenure of a scholarship has commenced, the University Scholarships Committee may, at its sole discretion, grant a scholarship recipient a deferment of their scholarship for a period not exceeding one year. In most cases such a deferment will coincide with a formal suspension from their PhD enrolment.
A scholarship shall be terminated if a scholarship recipient ceases to resume the aforesaid programme of research within one month of the last day of the period of the deferment.
If an award is made to an existing PhD candidate the tenure of the award will be reduced.

Additional information
Several types of Victoria PhD Scholarship may be offered. Most successful applicants will be offered a Victoria PhD Scholarship which provide an annual stipend of NZ$21,000 plus tuition fees. However, a small number of Vice Chancellor's Scholarships will be offered to the top applicants each round. These provide an annual stipend of $24,000 plus tuition fees. A number of Victoria Doctoral Assistantships are also offered each round. These consist of an annual stipend $15,000 plus tuition fees and an emploment component of $5,000.
Applicants, other than those who have completed all of their study at Victoria, must include a certified copy of their academic record from other institutions with this application. Applicants whose degree has been conferred at any university other than a New Zealand University will be considered in two categories:
Category 1 - applicants from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Germany or Australia must supply an original or certified copy of their university transcript.
Category 2 - applicants from any other country must have their transcript verified and assessed with a course by course evaluation by one of the below educational evaluators:

Launched in 2009, the OCIS - Oxford Scholarships support British Muslim students as well as those from developing countries in Asia and Africa to read for degrees at the University of Oxford. Under the programme, up to five scholarships each year are available for undergraduate students from Muslim communities in Britain. A further five scholarships are available for postgraduate students, at least two of whom will be UK students from Muslim communities, while the rest will be students from specified countries in Asia or Africa. The scholarships are available to students undertaking study in a range of fields relevant to the needs of Muslim societies.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Program "EuroSPIN" (European Study Programme in Neuroinformatics) is inviting applications from students having a solid background in mathematics, physics, computer sciences, biochemistry or neuroscience (on a master level or equivalent), in all cases with computer science skills. Documented interest in research like activities (e.g.demonstrated in the form of master thesis work, or participation in research related activities) is of large importance. Also fluency in English is requested.

Neuroinformatics combines neuroscience and informatics research to develop and apply computational tools and approaches that are essential for understanding the structure and function of the brain.Four partners participate in EuroSPIN:- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden- University of Edinburgh (UoE), UK- National Centre for Biological Science (NCBS), India- Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (ALUF), Germany

These four partners are all research leaders in the Neuroinformatics field, but they have complementary strengths. In addition, two associated partners, the Honda Research Institute and Nordita, participate.

Each student will spend most of the time at two of the partner universities, and also receive a joint (or double) PhD degree following a successful completion of the studies. The mobility periods, as well as the courses a student will follow, are tailored individually based on:

a) the PhD students background;

b) which constellations of partners that are involved, as well as

c) the specific research project. During the PhD period each student has one main supervisor from each of the two universities that grant the PhD degree.

During the application process, the students are asked to indicate their preferences with regard to constellations of partners, and also preferred project ideas/areas can be indicated and motivated.

We are inviting applications for two PhD student positions in the Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics at ETH Zurich. The successful candidates will investigate the physicochemical structure and biogeochemical reactivity of nano-crystalline Fe(III)-(hydr)oxides formed in the presence of natural organic matter. In natural environments, the precipitation of Fe(III)-(hydr)oxides is often influenced by dissolved or particulate organic matter such as humic substances or polysaccharides originating from microorganisms and plants. The structure and reactivity of such Fe(III)-precipitates containing significant amounts of organic carbon are of fundamental importance for understanding many biogeochemical processes, including contaminant behavior, carbon sequestration, weathering and soil formation. One subproject will focus on the molecular and microscopic level characterization of such precipitates and their interactions with trace metals in abiotic systems. In the other subproject we will study their dissolution behavior in abiotic and biotic systems using Shewanella and Geobacter strains, and track speciation changes of trace metals associated with these solids. Both students will apply state-of-the-art analytical techniques, including synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The two sub-projects will be strongly linked and international collaborations are planned.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in detailed laboratory research. Previous experience in the fields of mineralogy/crystallography, microbiology, and inorganic chemistry would be beneficial. Applicants should hold a MSc degree (or equivalent) in soil chemistry, environmental geochemistry, mineralogy, microbiology or a related basic science discipline. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is essential. Female and male candidates are equally invited to apply. Employment will be according to standard regulations of ETH Zurich (funding secured for 3 years). Start from March 2010 or upon mutual agreement.

Applications are invited for a studentship on an interdisciplinary project in face recognition. The student will work on automated face processing systems incorporating recent developments in psychology and engineering. The project will lead to hardware implementation of the system on a chip. A project summary is given below.

Candidates should have at least a 2:1 honours degree in electrical engineering, computing science or related discipline. Excellent programming skills in C and C++ are essential and a good understanding of Linux and embedded systems is desirable. Because the final version will be a system on a chip or an embedded device, experience in hardware development is required.

The duration of the studentship is three years, and the successful candidate will receive an annual stipend of £13,290 per annum. PhD fees will be paid.

Project Summary: Automatic face recognition based on human perception

Automatic face recognition is not currently good enough to work in practical settings, such as airport security. In contrast, humans seem to be good at recognising faces. In fact, we are only experts in face recognition when we know someone - our ability to match unfamiliar people to their photos (e.g. ID-cards or passports) is rather poor. Our recent research has revealed differences between familiar and unfamiliar face recognition, which account for human perception. However, this analysis - based on an understanding of how faces become familiar - is completely absent from automated systems. Here we propose a project in which knowledge of human familiar face recognition can be built-in to an automated system, and implemented on a chip. The resulting system has considerable potential both commercially, and as a technique for theory development. The project is highly inter-disciplinary, relying on the most recent research methods in psychology and engineering.

Tidak terasa sudah hampir beberapa tahun ini sudah jarang ketemu dengan temen-temen di SCARF, mumpung masih suasana Syawal dan sekalian bersilaturrahmi kita membuat road trip or vacation, outing atau apapun namanya yang tujuannya untuk silaturrahmi, relax and enjoy.

Kenapa Sabang?? Saya pribadi memilih Sabang tempat ngumpul, pertama seumur hidup saya belum pernah ke Sabang dan kedua Sabang mungkin tempat yang paling enjoy untuk liburan dengan low cost dan alam yang masih asri dan ketiga ada juga sahabat kita Candra yang sudah hampir beberapa bulan ini stayed di Sabang, ada ketinggalan yang ke empat waktu perjalanan SCARF ke Sabang untuk menghadiri pesta perkawinan teman kita banyak yang belum ikut. Dan perjalanan kali ini hanya untuk relax and enjoy.

Buat temen-temen SCARF kalau bisa meluangkan waktunya kita bisa berangkat bareng-bareng ke Sabang. Agar acara ini bisa sukses, dukungan temen-temen SCARF semua sangat diharapkan. Lebih detail lihat di FB untuk event Road to Sabang Island (Two Days and Two Night Stayed).

- Peserta lomba terbuka untuk seluruh Warga Negara Indonesia yang memiliki blog.
- Peserta mendaftarkan diri dan blog secara online di http://www.teknopreneur.com dan mengirimkan soft copy tulisan ke email info@teknopreneur.com.
- Peserta yang telah terdaftar diwajibkan memasang banner Kompetisi Blog HKI Teknopreneur yang telah disediakan pada blog yang didaftarkan.
*PERATURAN
- Tulisan pada blog yang didaftarkan harus sesuai dengan tema dengan jumlah karakter 3.000 – 4.000 karakter (termasuk spasi) dalam bahasa Indonesia atau bahasa Inggris.
- Peserta wajib mengirimkan tulisan ke info@teknopreneur.com untuk ditampilkan di situs Teknopreneur setelah melalui moderasi panitia.
- Tulisan yang didaftarkan harus tulisan yang dipublikasikan pada saat kompetisi sedang berlangsung, bukan tulisan yang sudah dipublikasikan sebelumnya di blog yang didaftarkan atau di blog lain atau di media publikasi lainnya.
- Tulisan harus karya sendiri bukan hasil karya orang lain.
*PENILAIAN
- Kesesuaian isi dengan tema kompetisi.
- Kreativitas dan eksplorasi ide dalam tulisan.
- Keakuratan dan kelengkapan data yang disajikan serta analisis terhadap data tersebut.
- Cara penyajian tulisan dan gaya bahasa yang digunakan.
- Posting yang diikutkan harus dipublikasikan pada saat kompetisi sedang berangsung, bukan posting yang sudah dibuat sebelumnya
- Keputusan dewan juri tidak dapat diganggu gugat.

FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State is pleased to announce the Community College Initiative Program. This new international educational exchange program enables individuals from Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey and South Africa to study at a community college in the United States to develop professional skills.
Eligible fields are Business Management and Administration; Tourism and Hospitality Management; Health Professions, including Nursing; Media; Information Technology; Security and Public Safety; and Engineering Science.
ELIGIBILITY
To apply to the program, candidates must:
* Have completed a secondary school education; D1, D2, D3 and S1
* Preference will be given to High School Diploma
*
Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree are eligible if they are applying in a field different from the field of their degree and have relevant work experience in the field for which they are applying.
* Applicants with MA or PhD degrees are not eligible to participate.
* Have relevant work experience in the field in which they are applying;
* Have English language skills that provide a basis for enrolling in academic coursework following approximately 6 months of intensive English language study in the U.S.;
* Submit a complete application; and
* Minimum Institutional TOEFL score 500 or TOEIC score 650 (only scores less than 2 years old are valid).
U.S. PROGRAM
The Community College Summit Initiative Program will provide funding for round-trip airfare to the U.S.; a living allowance during English language, academic, and practical training program components; tuition costs; health insurance; and cultural enhancement activities. Students will be hosted in groups by community colleges competitively selected to participate in the program. Programs may range from six months to two years in duration and may result in either a certificate or an Associate Degree. Students are required to return home at the end of their program and may not transfer to a four-year U.S. academic institution.

AMINEF is administering this program on behalf of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. Please return to AMINEF your complete application package (original application and two copies) by the application deadline that includes:

* Completed application form.
* Copy of your most recent, less than two years old, TOEFL score report.
* Copy of high school diploma (English translation) .
* Copy of identity document (KTP or passport).
